Call for applications for the GBM PhD Awards 2025

The Gesellschaft für Biochemie und Molekularbiologie e.V. (GBM) is awarding two PhD prizes in 2025 to promote young scientists. These will be awarded at the 76th Mosbach Colloquium (March 20-22, 2025 in Mosbach/Baden). The award winners must accept the prizes in person at the Mosbach Colloquium and give a presentation.

Bayer Pharmaceuticals PhD Award and Karl Lohmann PhD Award
These prizes for young scientists are awarded for the two best doctoral theses on biochemical or molecular biological topics. The doctoral prizes are endowed with 1,500 euros each. The work to be awarded must not have been completed more than two years ago at the time of the submission deadline.
Dissertations that have led to a doctorate at a German university are eligible for submission. Self-applications are also possible, as are proposals from supervisors. The decisive factor is the above-average quality of the work; membership of the GBM is not a prerequisite.

Proposals for all awards can be sent by email to awards@gbm-online.de until November 30, 2024.

The proposals must be accompanied by (in this order)

  • Contact addresses of the candidate and the proposer or supervisor
  • Curriculum vitae of the proposed young researcher
  • List of publications
  • Letter of motivation or letter of recommendation from the nominator of the prize-worthy work
  • the prize-worthy dissertation
  • the most important publications resulting from the work

Please submit the required documents in electronic form by e-mail (). Please combine all documents in a single pdf file (< 15 MB).

If you have any questions, please contact the GBM office (, phone: 069 - 660 567-0). For specific queries, you can also contact the prize coordinator Prof. Claus Seidel () by email.
