A practical tool that Simplifies Scientific Database Research

 

The volume of curated, open-source scientific data is enormous. Yet it is fragmented across numerous databases that were never designed to communicate with each other. We have a fundamental data access problem in scientific research that hinders our ability to design better experiments and decisions. In this seminar, we will showcase a practical solution to tackle this problem.

 

This seminar will be an interactive session. We are looking for 2 or 3 volunteers to bring a scientific question we can run live across databases (via email kubatzky@gbm-online.de). To help people prepare, participants can frame their submission as:

- The question they want to ask across databases (for example, "I want to know “X” to understand “Y”.  What is known about “X” across PubMed and bioRxiv that helps me understand “Y”?

- Which databases would they want to search (PubMed, NCBI, bioRxiv, structural data, etc.)

The question does not need to be an active or unpublished project. A concept or open question in the field works just as well. For anyone who would rather not discuss their work in front of the group, I am happy to offer a free private demonstration.
