Abstract:
Lectin-glycan interactions play essential roles in numerous biological processes such as cell proliferation and differentiation, pathogen recognition, and the immune response. C-type lectins represent a large lectin superfamily that often recognize ligands in a calcium-dependent manner. Myeloid C-type lectin receptors (CLRs) are mainly expressed by innate immune cells, act as pattern recognition receptors and sense pathogens, but also self-antigens. This talk will highlight the role of myeloid CLRs in pathogen recognition and their contribution to protective immune responses and/or immune pathology. The potential of CLR targeting to modulate immune responses during infections and inflammatory processes will also be discussed.
