Successful workshop ‚How-to-Postdoc‘ during jGBM meeting in Münster

The YI, represented by Nina, Karla and Andreas, were happy to join the jGBM on their impressive summer symposium “Mikro-Makro-Münster”, taking place July 21-23 in one of Germany’s most beautiful university cities. We had been invited to organize a panel discussion sharing our thoughts on how to decide for, organize and experience the postdoctoral time. We covered diverse facets around questions like going abroad, selecting the right lab, coordinating work with family life, and how to cope with the strong expectations. Our ‘workshop’ was attended by a large group of very interested jGBM members and turned out to also answer many questions for the doctoral time. The very different backgrounds and personal experiences of our representatives were consumed by the lively and actively discussing group of junior fellows and future doctoral students and postdocs.  

In general, the meeting also served to introduce our AK to the jGBM on a broader scale. We are grateful for this option and the positive feedback. The YI will now regularly join the jGBM summer symposia and offer tailored panel discussions and more. We are furthermore considering to start organizing a similar panel discussion in an online format for those wo are interested but unable to attend the jGBM Conference.

Thanks to Karla and Nina for their time in preparing the discussion and visiting the place, building bridges to the jGBM and future members of our AK. We felt, our initiative was well received and highly appreciated by the jGBM!
