The study group „Molecular Neurobiology, MolNeuro” was established in 1977 and formerly called “Study Group Neurochemistry”. The name change reflects the group’s expansion to include more disciplines, such as molecular biology, cell biology, stem cell research, neurogenetics, and neuroanatomy, in addition to neurochemistry. As a result, our study group serves as a platform for scientific exchange to a diverse group of experts, committed to elucidating the molecular mechanisms of brain function. The interdisciplinary integration of newly emerging methods and concepts is a particular concern of the study group. This also drives our efforts to build networks with other GBM study groups and it is in particular the focus of our biannual study group meetings, organized by the 2 coordinators. At these meetings, we preferentially promote young neuroscientists by giving them the opportunity to provide short talks, present posters, win poster prizes, and engage them in in-depth discussions with established scientists. Additionally, our study group maintains close ties with other neuroscience societies, such as the NWG (Neurowissenschaftliche Gesellschaft), as evidenced by the organization of a GBM Mini-Symposium on a particular topic at the NWG-Tagung (biannual general meeting) in Göttingen.
