IUBMB - International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

Global Networking in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology

The GBM is a member of the IUBMB, the global umbrella organization for biochemistry and molecular biology. Through the IUBMB, the GBM is part of a global network that promotes research, education, and scientific exchange at the international level and sets global standards in the molecular life sciences.

What is the IUBMB?

The International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUBMB) is the international umbrella organization for societies in the fields of biochemistry and molecular biology. It brings together national societies from numerous countries and regions around the world.
The IUBMB’s mission is to support research and education in biochemistry and molecular biology on a global scale, to strengthen international collaboration, and to promote the next generation of scientists, particularly in regions with fewer resources.

A key area of focus for the IUBMB is the development and maintenance of internationally recognized standards, such as those for enzyme and biochemical nomenclature.

The GBM and the IUBMB

As a member of the IUBMB, the GBM actively engages with the international scientific community. The GBM represents the interests of German biochemistry and molecular biology on a global level and contributes to the IUBMB’s strategic decisions, programs, and initiatives.
Through the participation of GBM members in councils, committees, and working groups, the GBM contributes to the worldwide advancement of the molecular life sciences.
